ELECTRIC
PERFORMANCES FOR PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE
The Electric Theatre in Guildford was buzzing last week when ‘Hear My
Song’ was performed by Working Title Productions in aid of the Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice.
The musical revue by a cast
of talented West End performers and current students from the Guildford
School of Acting was enjoyed by hundreds who flocked to the theatre.
Both the Mayor of
Guildford, Councillor Mrs Jennifer Powell and the Mayor of Waverley,
Councillor Michael Goodridge, attended the opening night as guests of the
Hospice. Both Mayors and their escorts had a thoroughly enjoyable evening
and were glad to support the Phyllis Tuckwell, which is actually the Mayor
of Waverley’s chosen charity for the year.
All the cast, crew and
staff at the Theatre had a great week and overall the run has raised over
£4,200 for the Hospice. The Phyllis Tuckwell provides palliative care for
patients with life limiting illnesses from Guildford, Waverley and
surrounding areas and relies on events such as this for over 80% of its
funding.

GUILDFORD
INNER WHEEL SUPPORTS PHYLLIS TUCKWELL
Members of the Guildford Inner Wheel gathered to present
Claire Walker, Community Fundraiser for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, with a
cheque for £1,000 at the beginning of September. Claire, who has met the
group before, enjoyed tea and gave an informal talk to the ladies to update
them on Hospice news.
The Hospice was the group’s
chosen charity for the year ending in August and all members worked hard to
raise the money for what is undoubtedly a worthy cause and a charity close
to their hearts.
The group held several
events, including a 75th Birthday Tea and a special Christmas
Fair and provided the refreshments at the annual Carol Concert at the Civic
Hall, Guildford.
Last year’s President Lynne
Addis-Jones was delighted to be able to make a contribution to the Phyllis
Tuckwell before standing down to make way for this year’s President. The
Guildford Inner Wheel has yet to decide on its charity for this year, but
the ladies endeavour to carry on doing their best and supporting good causes
for many years to come.

HAWLEY ARMS RACES FOR HOSPICE
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is £875 better off, thanks to the
wonderful fundraising staff and patrons at the Hawley Arms, Farnborough.
Proprietors Rob and Sheila Allan have supported the Phyllis Tuckwell many
times over the years, and like to keep the Hospice as their main charity,
mainly because Sheila’s own mother suffered from cancer.
The pub staged a Race Night in August, which was
a great success, and raised the fantastic sum of £875. Sheila said it
couldn’t have happened without the help of so many loyal customers and also
the support of Hawley Convenience Stores, the Hawley Pharmacy, Willies
Kitchen and Atlantic Racing who all sponsored races.
John Smyth, a regular at the Hawley Arms, was
particularly keen for the Race Night to be a success. John has been
attending the Phyllis Tuckwell Day Centre for months, where he enjoys seeing
all the nurses who are very friendly. John, who can only take liquid food,
still finds time to enjoy a pint at his local and encourages all his
neighbours to support the Hospice by collecting their newspapers. John
usually brings the papers when he comes to Day Care and if there are too
many his wife brings the rest. The Phyllis Tuckwell recycle newspapers, and
John likes to help raise funds this way.
Claire Walker went to the pub to collect the
proceeds from the Race Night, and enjoyed meeting John, Rob and Sheila. They
told Claire about their next fundraiser for the Hospice: Sponsored Bungee
Jumps at the Hawley Arms on Sunday 14th October. Why not give it
a go! For more information about jumping for the Hospice, call in at the
Hawley Arms and ask for Sheila or Rob.
