Chaplain’s Message
|
This year has
been full of new experiences and a welcome re-visiting of others. As
well as the milestones of the seasons, such as Christmas and Easter, we
have been aware of the monthly changes when the Thanksgiving services
take place on the first Thursday of each month. |

These are
special in so many ways, not least because it gives the families who have
spent time with us in previous months a chance to come back to the Hospice
and give thanks. Some find returning here quite a challenge and yet are so
grateful for the opportunity to remember their loved ones with candles,
readings and quiet moments.
This year has
seen the Chaplaincy team grow, as three voluntary chaplain’s assistants have
been recruited with the help of Gill Gibson, Voluntary Services Manager.
They have settled in quickly and easily and are enjoying their new roles.
Two trainee clergy have also been able to carry out their community
placements here as part of their training for the priesthood. Two more are
in the pipeline for 2003/4 as the Hospice has proved popular with the
training colleges as an appropriate venue for this part of their training.
|
My own training
goes on and I have enjoyed sharing my experiences with other chaplains,
churches and groups. The centre of my work here still continues to be “being
there” for patients, families and staff and I look forward to continuing to
fulfil that role. The year flies by, each month with its own “flavour” but
the people themselves remain of paramount importance whatever the season.
May God bless you all in the coming year. |
