The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice

SCHOOL FUNDRAISING

Children in schools throughout Surrey and Hampshire should watch out for Claire from September.  She is busy preparing packs for teachers including many ideas on how pupils of all ages can get involved in events, schemes and competitions.  Senior schools will be able to enter groups of students for the MULTIPLYING FIVES competition where they will learn that 2 times 5 does not always make 10!!

The following is a copy of Claire's letter of introduction to the schools in the area.

"I am writing to introduce myself as Community Fundraiser for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. This is a new position for the Hospice and my brief is to raise awareness of our work throughout the community and thereby generate support and funds from schools, groups and individuals in the area.

As an ex-teacher myself, I know how creative and enthusiastic pupils can be if they are asked to contribute to a good charitable cause. I also believe that a sense of achievement, well-being and personal self esteem can be fostered by helping a local institution that has a real relevance to the lives of pupils and their families.

I am currently compiling a range of fundraising ideas for schools which will include competitions, events and schemes whereby older pupils can use their own individual talents and creative flair. I would also be keen to help with ideas for Duke of Edinburgh's Award skills if any of your students are participating in the scheme.

I do appreciate the many demands made on your goodwill and time, especially at the end of a busy summer term, but I would very much like the opportunity to come and visit your school at the beginning of the new academic year to discuss ways in which we can help each other. I would be happy to attend an assembly, or meet pupils and staff in smaller groups if this is more suitable.

I look forward to hearing from you.

With warm regards,
Yours sincerely
Claire Walker
