TO MUSIC IN THE PARK
| Don't miss out on
'Picnic To Music In The Park' on Saturday 5th July in the King George
V Playing Fields, Farnborough. Tickets are now on sale for the biggest
event in the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice calendar, and it's all thanks to
the Rotary Club of Farnborough. |
|
After the amazing success of Picnic to Music in
the Park in July 2001, which raised £28,500 for the hospice, over 5,000
people are expected to come this July to hear the BBC Big Band, with
vocalist Lee Gibson, and see the fantastic firework display whilst enjoying
a summer's evening with friends and family.
The
organising committee from Farnborough Rotary Club has been hard at work
securing sponsorship and making plans behind the scenes so that the event
runs smoothly once again. Claire Walker, Community Fundraiser for the
Phyllis Tuckwell, is delighted the Club elected to run the event again
this year with all proceeds coming to the hospice.
She says:
'The hospice relies heavily on events such as this for its funding. I am
very grateful to the Rotary Club for their support again. Picnic to Music
in the Park is a fun event and local people can help the Phyllis Tuckwell
whilst having a great evening too. There will also be the chance to win a
television, kindly donated by Toshiba, amongst other raffle prizes.'

GARDEN DESIGNER FROM GODALMING
|

Rebecca Callanan at work in the hospice
garden
|
Green fingered
Godalming resident Rebecca Callanan is busy tending plants and flowers
for her Bargain Plant Sale to raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice on Saturday 12th April.
Rebecca, who has lived
in Godalming for 14 years, worked previously as a nursing Sister at
the Royal Surrey Hospital and is now in her fourth year working at the
Phyllis Tuckwell as Nurse Manager. Rebecca is a qualified garden
designer too, having trained at Brinsbury College of Agriculture, and
designed the inner hospice garden for patients and their families to
enjoy. |
Rebecca
and a team of volunteers planted all the new plants and shrubs in three
months, finishing the project in May 2001. Now, almost two years later,
the garden is maturing and with its open south facing site it has
established tremendously. Rebecca says the dry, sandy/stony soil was a
challenge for the garden design, but she chose plants specifically to suit
the soil and she is pleased with the results.
Rebecca
wanted to use her skills to raise much needed funds for the Phyllis
Tuckwell and the Plant Sale is open at the Hospice in Waverley Lane,
Farnham on Saturday 12th April from 10am to 3pm. Easter flower
arrangements will be on sale too as well as cakes, refreshments, jewellery,
activities for children and much more.
Rebecca
and her helpers will be happy to offer gardening tips and advice about
choosing plants. She says: “I have studied therapeutic horticulture and
its benefits to patients, relatives and staff are widely documented. I
enjoy being able to combine my nursing with the garden design as it brings
such pleasure to so many.”

FOR LOCAL CHARITY
|
|
HI SPEED SERVICES LTD

become a respected local company who have developed a number of links
within their Aldershot community base over the years. Indeed only
recently the courier firm became the official club sponsors of the
highly successful Aldershot Town Football Club. |
Company Director Carl Arkley is now setting a new
target to raise sufficient funds in order to supply the loved and
respected PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE with a Goods Transit Vehicle
that will enable hospice representatives to venture into the community in
support of its charity shops.
In total Carl is looking to raise £7900 in order to be
in a position to supply the hospice with this much needed vehicle and he
will be running the Fleet 1/2 Marathon on
Sunday March 16 2003
in support of the hospice.
The 43 year old, who has been supported in this
project by Hi Speed Managing Director Ian Dawkins, said “To begin with we
just wanted to raise funds for charity and then we became aware of the
hospice’s recent partnership with Aldershot Town Football Club. It was
Ian’s idea to look at the possibilities of raising funds for the vehicle
and I am only too pleased to run for this cause. I have been so encouraged
already by the generosity and support shown and I am hoping that people
will want to sponsor me for what is such a great local charity that
has affected so many families within
Aldershot and the
surrounding areas. I am working hard to ensure that I will be in good
condition once the race commences”.
Carl has run for charity before including the Hong
Kong Marathon twelve years ago.
If you would like to
sponsor Carl in his support of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice please contact
