RUSHMOOR FOOTBALL
CLUBS MERGE FOR CHARITY
LOGAN’S RUN, a
popular local 10KM event for serious and fun athletes alike, takes place
in aid of the PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE on Sunday April 27 at the
Rushmoor Arena.
The
event starts at
12.00pm and amongst the anticipated field of 250 runners will be the
manager of the Ryman League leaders
Aldershot Town Terry
Brown and the boss of Nationwide Conference neighbours Farnborough
Town Ian McDonald.
It
is a great initiative between the two clubs to support the event that is
sure to raise excellent interest locally whilst raising important funds
for the hospice that includes Aldershot and Farnborough as two of the key
towns within its catchment area. There will be plenty of sideshows on the
day as organisers of the event aim to promote a family occasion for all.
Supporters of both football clubs are asked to support their respective
bosses or collectively to enhance the increasing good relationship between
the two clubs. Ways of how you can help will be published shortly.
Terry Brown
has been manager of
Aldershot
Town
since March 2002 and in that time has ensured the vital community
relationships that the club encourages has been enhanced with his
excellent communication skills. His counterpart at Cherrywood Road, Ian
McDonald , has legendary status at
Aldershot too being a former player and Manager of the Football League club. He
has only recently taken over at the Nationwide Conference club but in his
short time has brought back the “feel good” factor to the club.
In
addition to the 10km event there is also a 3000m Family Fun Run. If you
would like to participate in either race and join the two bosses please

PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE LAUNCH
The partnership between Aldershot Town Football Club
and the PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE will be launched at Saturday’s
Ryman League encounter versus Boreham Wood to be staged at the Recreation
Ground. The launch was due to take place in January versus Maidenhead
United but the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
The launch will be staged at half time on the pitch
with representatives present from both organizations. Representing the
football club will be Chairman Karl Prentice, Vice Chairman John McGinty
and Club Chaplain Mike Pusey. Attending today from the Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice are Chris Tuckwell (President), Kim Archer (Chief Executive),
Brian Lowe (Vice Chairman), George Kingston and Kevin Ryan (Trustees),
David Maskell (Director of Operations), Gill Gibson (Voluntary Services
Manager) and our former Company Secretary
Graham Brookland who is now on the Fundraising team at the hospice.
There will then be a presentation made on behalf of
the football club by the Jolly family, in memory of Ray Jolly who
passed away peacefully at home before Christmas. Ray and his family were
deeply touched by the kindness and support given to them by the staff of
the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The Jolly family are all keen supporters of
Aldershot Town Football Club and through the generosity of friends and
relatives a sum of £1,189 was raised. It will be a fitting way to launch
the partnership.
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice has a local catchment
area of 600,000 people and covers the majority of the GU postcodes. The
area covers a major part of the football clubs supporter base.
The partnership includes a number of initiatives to
raise the awareness of the hospice leading up to a charity football match
to be staged at the Recreation Ground at the start of each season. The
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice are looking forward to a long, happy and
successful relationship with Aldershot Town Football Club.

ALDERSHOT
TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB IN PARTNERSHIP
WITH THE PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE
The
PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE are delighted to announce that
Aldershot Town Football Club has agreed to a partnership where the
hospice will become the recognised official charity to the football club.
The
club have been keen supporters of the hospice in the past and has
previously donated in excess of £5,000 as a result of reaching the FA Cup
1st round in recent years.
Aldershot is a central town to the PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE. Indeed
the 600,000 catchment area of the hospice covers the majority of the shots
supporter base covering the majority of the GU postal code area.
For
those unaware of the service that the hospice provides it offers
palliative care to patients who have life limiting illnesses in a
compassionate and friendly environment. It provides equitable supportive
care to those with life limiting illness such as cancer and importantly an
excellent support service to each patient’s family and friends.
The
hospice provides 21 beds and has approximately 650 patient registrations
each year. It also, however, provides excellent alternative community
support including an active Social Work and Welfare department, a
physiotherapist and aromatherapist plus a Home Support Team. A thriving
Day Care centre also attracts over 2,500 people per year. This offers
patients a social scene in conjunction with receiving essential medical
care and allows carers respite and a break from looking after their loved
ones at home. It is a fact that throughout your lifetime you are likely to
be affected by the hospice either directly, through a family member or
friend.
The
hospice is a registered charity that makes no charge for its patients and
receives a small fraction from health authorities. Therefore it needs
£8,000 per day to function and this is generated mainly through fund
raising, special appeals, legacies, support groups, trusts and donations.
The
partnership with the football club will provide the hospice the
opportunity to raise the awareness of its community role and initially it
is looking to recruit members within the
Aldershot area to form an active Support Group. It aims to hold
functions within the new Social venue at the football club that should be
open early next year.
The
primary aspect of the partnership will be a Charity Football match to be
held at the Recreation Ground each year on a Sunday during the early part
of the season in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Graham Brookland, Community Fund Raiser at the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice said
“We are so grateful for the Board of Directors at Aldershot Town FC to
agreeing to join in a partnership with the hospice. We have many
initiatives planned that will involve the
Aldershot supporters in a fun way and we will announce these in due course after
the launch day. We are looking forward to forming a strong positive
relationship with a successful local sporting organization”.
The
official launch of the partnership will be held at the shots’ home Ryman
League match versus Boreham Wood on Saturday February 1 2003. Shots
Chairman Karl Prentice said “We are delighted to form a partnership with
such a valuable local charity and we felt that it was important because
the Phyllis Tuckwell has such a great name within the community and it is
a charity that so many of our supporters can identify with. We are keen to
develop an excellent relationship.”
