FINAL CHARITY SHOW AT DANCE
SCHOOL
SUPPORTS PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE
The Camberley based
Elmhurst, The School For Dance, will be hosting its final charity
performance – The Elmhurst Gala Summer Show - on Wednesday July 16 2003
in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The school is
relocating to the Midlands next year and it is appropriate that its last
charity show is in aid of a local cause that has an effect on all members
of the community.
The organisers of the
event are aiming to build on last year’s success and the show will feature
a mixture of talent provided by the Elmhurst students. Also included in
the admission price of £20 is a champagne reception, a buffet supper and
wine.
A special guest of the
evening will be Fiona Castle, widow of entertainer Roy who died of cancer
in 1994. Fiona is keen to advocate the importance of hospices within the
local community. A former Elmhurst pupil between 1949 and 1957, Fiona was
also Head Girl and is now a Governor of the school.
Elmhurst Bursar Pauline
Vary is looking forward to the performance and said “The Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice is such a wonderful local cause and has had a substantial
influence on so many people in Camberley. It provides so much care and
attention not only to patients but families, friends and carers too. We
are so pleased to be supporting the hospice in our final charity
performance before our move to Birmingham.”
The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice relies almost totally on the local community for its funding and
currently needs £8,000 a day to provide expert care for patients
throughout West Surrey and North East Hampshire suffering from life
limiting illnesses such as cancer.
The event starts at
6.30pm and tickets for what will be a memorable evening are available from
the hospice by contacting Claire Walker on 01252 729433.

GO YELLOW IN JUNE
FOR PHYLLIS TUCKWELL AND WIN £500
The yellow sunflower is
the official emblem for all Hospices and this June the Phyllis Tuckwell is
inviting all members of the community, companies, pubs, churches and
schools to stage their own GO YELLOW event to raise money for the charity.
Claire Walker, Community Fundraiser for the Hospice, would like to hear
from anyone who would like to organize their own event such as a yellow
raffle, a yellow cake sale, a 'dress in yellow' day or a yellow auction.
Thirteen schools across
Surrey and Hampshire, representing over 3,000 children, are already
joining in the campaign by holding yellow mufti-days in June in aid of
Phyllis Tuckwell. And there is a lucky bonus for the school raising the
most money per pupil, as World Wide Carpets Ltd of Aldershot has pledged
to award them a prize of £500 for the second year running!! There is still
time to register your school for a yellow mufti day, so teachers and
pupils are encouraged to contact Claire Walker for further details.
The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice relies almost totally on fundraising initiatives such as GO YELLOW
to find more than £8,000 a day in running costs and most families know of
a family member or friend who has been cared for by the hospice.

GOING YELLOW this June, contact Claire Walker on

The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice has formed a Support Group in Aldershot. The aim of the group is
to raise the fund raising potential and awareness of the hospice within
the Aldershot area.
The Group’s first event

at the Garretts Sports and Social Club, Queens Avenue, Aldershot, by
the Military Stadium.
The evening offers an
attractive night with a small entrance fee of £6-00 to include a Fish and

enjoyable, relaxing and successful night in aid of the local hospice. The
event starts at 8.00pm and tickets are now available from the hospice.

and he will be happy to discuss the matter further.
The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice offers palliative care to patients within West Surrey and North
and Mid Hampshire from life limiting illnesses. In total it serves 600,000
people within the region and the hospice is likely to affect the majority
of the community members at some stage of their lifetime either directly,
through a family member or friend. It also offers an excellent variety of
support facilities in addition to in patient admissions. To operate it
requires £8,000 per day to function and receives only a small fraction
from health authorities. The remainder is self generated.

LOGAN’S RUN- A BIG SUCCESS !
|
|
|
|
The Logan’s Run
sponsored by local Farnborough based company PHILEAS FOGG TRAVEL
GROUP proved a successful event at Eelmoor Common on Sunday with
258 entrants for the 10KM race and the Family Fun Run all in aid of
the locally respected charity PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE. The
race is held in memory of Ian Logan who was a popular athlete from the
Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletics Club who died aged 41 in
1997. |
|
Despite a fierce wind the
Men’s 10KM event was won in a respectable 36 minutes 59 seconds by Andy
Evans from Coulsdon in Surrey. For the second successive year Zara Hyde
Peters of Bracknell won the Ladies Race in a time of 38 minutes 15
seconds. Darol Camplin won the Family Fun Run. All the competitors
received a medal upon crossing the line.
The organisers of the event
were happy with the day with a 40% increase in competitors from last year.
Hospice Fund Raiser Graham Brookland said “ It was an enjoyable occasion
that seems certain to raise vital funds for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
and it has also raised the awareness of what the hospice provides to the
local community. Many of the runners have been so generous in their
efforts to raise sponsorship. There was a big increase in runners from
last year and that is encouraging for the future as we will certainly hold
it again next year. There are many people to thank for staging the Logan’s
Run in particular the sponsors Phileas Fogg Travel Group, Marks and
Spencers (Aldershot), Chris Whittingham at Rushmoor Borough Council, Terry
Owens (Hospice Volunteer) and the Aldershot, Farnham and District
Athletics Club”.
The race was further enhanced
by the involvement of the two local football managers Terry Brown
(Aldershot Town) and Ian McDonald (Farnborough Town) cheered on by their
respective mascots, “Phoenix” and “The Boro Bug”. The latter came home in
53 minutes 54 seconds with the Shots boss crossing the finishing line just
over the hour mark. Particular thanks are also due to Vince Williams,
Secretary at Farnborough Town Football Club for allowing a collection in
support of Ian McDonald at their last home match of the season.
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
provides care for people with a progressive illness for whom there is no
longer a curative treatment and enables them to live life to the full. It
includes a catchment area of 600,000 people covering the majority of the
GU postcodes. In addition to the 650 patient admissions annually it
provides a Day Care Centre that is visited by 2,500 patients per year and
a Home Support team that makes over 1000 visits per year. No charge is
made to the patients and 88% of funding is generated through fund raising,
special appeals, legacies, support groups, trusts and donations.
