Fundraising Diary 2002-2003
April 2002
Eleven
brave men and women runners ran a total of 291 miles in the London
Marathon to raise sponsorship for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, the
fastest coming home in three and a half hours.
A Fashion
Show organised by the Hospice’s Camberley Support Group raised more than
£2,500 with 300 people enjoying the evening at High Cross Church.

More than 150
adults and juniors took part in the 10km Logan's Run at the Rushmoor Arena
in memory of local athlete Ian Logan. |

The
musically minded construction engineers building the new road on the old
Pyestock Gas Turbine site raised approximately £1,400 at their folk music
sessions and presented their cheque at the Hospice. |

Serving
personnel from the Keogh Barracks in
Aldershot
took an active part in their fundraising year for us, providing volunteers
for the Annual Garden Party at
Farnham
Castle.
The fun carried on into the evening with a Hog Roast and a Jazz Night.
June 2002
June
brought the sunflower month and the Go Yellow Tea at the Hospice, where
patients, volunteers and staff ate, drank and wore yellow for an
afternoon. Schools and churches held Go Yellow events and there were
gardens open in various villages around Farnham. The Hospice held a Go
Yellow Walk at the Alice Holt Woodland Park, the Hospice shops decorated
their windows in yellow and people from across the region joined in a
special Go Yellow quiz.

Patients,
staff and volunteers celebrated The Queen's Golden Jubilee with a special
afternoon tea in the Hospice garden. |

The
Gala Evening held at
Elmhurst
School for
Dance raised £3,000 and provided spectacular entertainment and a champagne
reception for guests, as well as a raffle drawn by special guest Fiona
Castle, former Head Girl at Elmhurst and widow of Roy Castle, who died
from cancer in 1994.
August 2002
The
“Can Do It” aluminium-recycling project raised £3,000 with the on-going
support of T. Baker (Jnr) Ltd of Wrecclesham. Supporters in various golf
clubs across our region held Golf Days throughout the year.
September 2002
The
Guildford School of Acting staged three performances of “Broadway and
Beyond” at the Electric Theatre in
Guildford. Supporters and volunteers climbed another
mountain for us – this year they reached the summit of
Mount Snowdon.
October 2002
Leanne
Kinchin of Farnham had her hair cut in aid of the Hospice and raised £1500
from sponsorship.

Our
Supporters joined in the Great Hospice Walk in beautiful autumn sunshine
across the Surrey Hills near Newlands Corner in partnership with the
Godalming WWF group. |

Pupils from South Farnborough Infant School raised the magnificent total
of £750 in a Fun Run around the school field.
December 2002
The
annual Light Up A Life event took place in Princes Mead shopping centre in
Farnborough – a book of remembrance was opened and Christmas tree lights
were lit by members of the public who wished to remember loved ones. In
Farnham, the Light Up A Life ceremony took place as usual outside the
Hospice and many people braved the weather to see the Christmas tree light
up and join in the very emotional and moving service in memory of their
loved ones.
The Alder
Valley Christmas Concert and the Fleet Band Concert are popular events at
this time of year and raised more than £3,000 for the Hospice.
A total of
£1500 was raised at the "Old Courthouse" Pub in Farnborough in an evening
of music and laughter attended by Eastenders "Barry", actor Shaun
Williamson.

A Valentine’s Ball held at
Farnham
Castle
raised more than £3,000 for the Hospice.

February also
marked the Official Launch of the partnership with Aldershot Town FC. A
donation of £1189 was presented in memory of Ray Jolly, a loyal supporter
of the football club who passed away before Christmas and whose family was
touched by the support of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. |

March 2003
Carl Arkley, the Director of Hi Speed Couriers ran the Fleet Half Marathon
and raised £1500. The Largest Pedal Car in the world paraded through
Farnham town centre courtesy of World Wide Carpets to promote the
forthcoming London Marathon. Henry Liu, a loyal and long-serving supporter
of the Hospice prepared to welcome 120 people to his Kar Ling Kwong
restaurant in Farnham for a Chinese Banquet.
There are now
more than 400 “Pennies from Heaven” collecting tins out in the community
bringing £2,000 a month to Hospice funds; Julie Thomas passes her grateful
thanks on to all of the volunteers who collect, count and wash the tins.
