Aldershot and Camberley League
Charity ‘24 hour’ Badminton 2002

The Aldershot and Camberley
District Badminton League is hosting a charity Badminton event on 24th
May, 2002 at Lightwater Sports Centre, in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice. As a twist to the normal charity event, badminton will be played
continuously by the intrepid players for a 24 hour period starting at 9pm on
the 24th!
Players in the 24 hour
event will be representing clubs and groups from all over Berkshire, Surrey
and Hampshire and will be sponsored for a specific time period.
Carol Ashcroft, Chair
person of the Aldershot and Camberley District Badminton League, said ‘All
our members are keen to help a local charity and we picked the Phyllis
Tuckwell as many of us know of friends or relatives who have been cared for
there. I realise how important it is that the local community continues to
support their work and we as a league have pledged to raise as much money as
possible.’
Two of the Hospice nurses
have already got their racquets and shuttlecocks at the ready! Linda Bone
and Linda Browning have been friends for 20 years, and as well as sharing
the same name, they are the same age, play for the same Badminton League and
work together! Both Lindas are keen fundraisers for the Phyllis Tuckwell
too. Linda Bone regularly runs stalls, raffles and sales and also organises
an excellent plant stall at the Hospice whilst Linda Browning is often to be
found helping out at bazaars, fetes and special events. The Lindas will be
battling it out on court on the Friday evening before getting back to the
Hospice for a late shift!
