Our 30th birthday
We’ve got 30:30 Vision!
30 years past and future…
In 2009, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice will be celebrating its 30th birthday!
When we opened in 1979, we were revolutionary. We launched into a world that knew very little about the special care needs of the terminally ill and those close to them. We gradually made an impact, not only in the provision of this specialist care, but also in its research and education. We have achieved so much in our rich and challenging 30 year history and we want to celebrate this success with you, the community who made it all possible - but together we must also do everything we can to safeguard our future and ensure the Hospice and its services are always available to those who need us in the next 30 years, and beyond. This is our 30:30 Vision.
Making plans
We would like to offer a choice to local patients and their families about where their care is provided:
- An 18 bed In-Patient Unit based at the Hospice;
- A larger Community Team and an increase in the number and range of services offered to patients in their own homes;
- Dedicated Complementary Therapy rooms to be able to meet the demand for this important part of our service;
- A Day Hospice service and more Out-Patient consultations so that patients who are being looked after at home can visit the Hospice to use our facilities or to see any member(s) of our multi disciplinary team;
- Support for patients’ families and carers including practical support, respite care and counselling and bereavement support;
- Support for patients with a range of healthcare conditions including patients with a non-cancer diagnosis;
- Additional training activities and support for GPs, district nurses and other healthcare professionals in our community.
Your birthday gift to our patients and their families
We have reached the limit of our ability to provide these additional services within the current physical space at the Hospice. To make our visionary plans a reality, we need to go beyond the Hospice building. We will be out and about in our community, both providing care directly, and educating and empowering others to do the same.
We’re being visionary! But we need your help…
Please read our 30th birthday leaflet to find out how you can support us in our vision!
