A Sign of Good Service

Our Camberley store can offer a rather special service to its customers – the artistry of Harry Smith.

Harry makes beautiful hardwood house signs and numbers as an on-going memorial to his wife Cherrie who was a patient at the Hospice.

All proceeds from this most successful venture are donated entirely to the Hospice.

The signs, which are all hand-carved, painted and varnished by Harry are crafted from a variety of seasoned hardwoods and make a handsome addition to the front of any house.

They are very competitively priced from only £8.50 for a number to £19.50 for the biggest sign.

So our very special thanks go to Harry and all our volunteers, whose efforts continue to make our Camberley Shop so successful.

FRAN’S VAN by Jo W

Have you seen our Fran in her little Blue Van
As she busies about GU?
She collects all the froth that you see in our shops,
Bric-a-brac and the bijou too.
Then she sorts and cleans; gives a press; adds a sheen,
Until everything gleams as new:
To be sold in the shops as numerous bargain lots,
To the likes of the me-s and you-s.
There’s her boss, that’s Tim – he’s very nice
And NO! not dim –
You will see him a time or few.
Well, a girl sometimes needs muscle,
When there’s big things to tussle.
And she’ll MAYBE let him drive van too!
All day she’ll be working, with no time for shirking,
But she’ll stop just for a chat or a brew.
Then she smiles and hits the road,
Picking up the waiting loads:
Moving them from here to P.T. Ships and YOU!

NEW SHOPS FOR OLD

Charity shop workers didn’t need to find a new route to work when our Aldershot Shop re-opened at a new site last month.  Tim Osborn, our Shops Coordinator, had been lucky enough to find bigger and much better premises, quite literally ‘just up the Street’!

The street in question was of course Union Street, Aldershot – and WE are now to be found at 9 Union Street instead of 17a.

We were pleased and honoured that the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Jim White and his wife Pearl agreed to be our guests and ‘officially’ open the new store – David Kinnear, Director of Fundraising for the Hospice, gave a welcoming speech to the mayoral party and called for continuing support from the people of Aldershot who have so generously supported us as a community.

Tim had been seeking new premises for some time because our original shop had become too small and also because the lease was coming to an end.  After finding our spacious new site, a huge amount of refurbishment was required before opening day including ramp access for wheelchairs and buggies.

He thanked his Manager, Maureen Lyons and her team of volunteer staff; paying tribute to the ‘Whole team who had worked incredibly hard’.

“Bigger and Better” becomes our adopted slogan now for all the shops, as we look to build on the success we have already achieved in Aldershot”.
