FUNDRAISING AND COMMUNICATIONS
Fundraising
at the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is faced with an enormous number of
pressures and challenges and yet receives the most heartwarming and
dedicated support from a huge number of people and organisations across
our region. Working in an area that extends well outside Farnham as far as
Guildford,
Godalming, Milford, Haslemere, Bordon, Aldershot, Fleet, Farnborough,
Frimley and Camberley, we raise money from sources as diverse as community
events, legacies and trusts, general donations, recycling, flag days and
the sale of goods. We are very thankful that there is a core of support in
our community that cares about and gives regularly to our cause, but we
are equally aware that while we rely on our traditional sources we should
also look for new and sustainable sources of income. In searching for new
sources of donations, we will inevitably encounter strong competition for
the same funds, and this means we will have to work smarter and with
greater focus than ever before.
The
Fundraisers were recently asked which aspect they thought was most
important for success in their job – passion or professionalism. The team
was split half and half, which is a sign that we are a well-balanced team
and that we must not lose sight of both aspects, which help us to achieve
our common goal.
None of the
events that have taken place in the fundraising year would have been
possible without the support and help given by the volunteers and
supporters who so loyally turn up for all our events and keep the show
running. Next year will be a special year for us all as the Hospice looks
forward to its Silver Jubilee in 2004 and we will be working hard to make
sure it is a memorable year.
