PHYLLIS TUCKWELL 25TH ANNIVERSARY WEEK
AT THE WEST END CENTRE
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice continues to mark
its 25th anniversary year with the announcement that they will be holding
a week of fund raising events at Aldershot's West End Centre from Sunday 6
to Saturday 12 June 2004.
Arrangements are still being finalised but the week will feature comedy,
folk, blues, dance theatre, a rock gig and a rare appearance by the
Tornados.
"We hope there will be something to suit all tastes" says Barney Jeavons,
West End Centre Director who has planned the week with Graham Brookland
from the Hospice and Guy Butchers from Key Publications.
"I had no idea that the hospice has over 2,500 visitors a year and only
receives a small portion of the £3,000,000 it needs to run from
government funding." Says Barney, "We are delighted to be able to help
such a vital local facility" he continues.
There are still some sponsorship opportunities available for local
companies in connection with the week. Anyone wishing to join in with this
should call Graham direct on (01252) 729400. "If anyone would like to
help us, the amounts of sponsorship available range for a small advert in
our souvenir brochure to sponsorship of the whole event. I would be
delighted to talk to anybody that wishes to support the hospice in this
special week" says Graham.

Teams from Transco, owners of Britain’s gas pipe network
and operator of the 24-hour national gas emergency service, have raised
£1,000 for The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham by keeping their eyes
open for hazards in the workplace.
The teams, from Aldershot, raised the money through the
Safety Charity Challenge scheme, a company initiative that triggers
donations to local charities in return for spotting and removing potential
safety hazards and reducing lost time injuries at work.
Clodagh Sowton, Director of Nursing at The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice said, “We are delighted Transco has given us this generous donation
as it recognises we are a local charity caring for local people.”
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice provides free specialist care to
those facing a life-limiting illness and to those who love and care for
them. Their care is tailored to the physical and emotional needs of each
individual patient at any stage of their illness; most of the patients have
cancer, but they also care for people with Motor Neurone Disease and HIV
Aids. While they cannot offer a cure, they can help people to make the most
of the time they have left. They offer symptom control and pain relief as
well as complementary therapies such as massage and reflexology,
counselling, occupational therapy and physiotherapy and spiritual care
through their Chaplain.
Transco’s network operations manager Terry McCartney said,
“It was unanimous this worthy charity was chosen to receive this donation as
part of our Safety Charity Challenge initiative.”
