WEMBLEY
WINNER SUPPORTS HOSPICE AGAIN
Alton United
(Youth) Football Club will be
supporting the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice for the second successive
year on FA Cup Final day, Saturday May 19 2007.
The club are
holding a Football tournament at their Anstey Park headquarters
involving men’s and ladies teams including many parents of the
junior teams that range from under 5 through to under 18’s at the
club.
Starting on the
Saturday morning the event will conclude in time for those present
to watch the FA Cup Final on the large clubhouse screen as Chelsea
and Manchester United play each other at the first final at the new
Wembley.
There will be a
licensed bar, Bar B Q, Bouncy Castle and other children's activities
for the youngsters together with a raffle.
The club are also
planning to stage an auction and already have a signed Reading FC
shirt, Chelsea FC ball and items from other clubs including
Aldershot Town.
The relationship
between Alton United (Youth) and the Hospice all started through
former Aldershot Town, Farnborough Town and Woking footballer
Colin Fielder who ran the London Marathon in 2005.
Colin was behind the initiative that raised over £5000 for
the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in May 2006 when 200 youngsters
of Alton United (Youth) FC set about a “Sponsored Walk” around
Anstey Park. Colin, who scored the winning goal for Woking v
Kidderminster Harriers in the 1996 FA Trophy final at Wembley in the
last minute of extra time, now manages the under 14 team at Alton
United (Youth) FC.
He said, “Alton United (Youth) FC are proud to be able to continue
its support of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. It is important that as
a club we can give something back to the local community and the
Hospice plays a big part in so many people’s lives and has had its
own financial difficulties recently.
“We hope that it is an enjoyable day for everybody that attends and
that we are able to raise more funds for such a well respected local
charity.”
Hospice Community Fundraiser Graham Brookland added, “We are
grateful for everybody at Alton United (Youth) FC for choosing the
Hospice again as their chosen charity. To see the efforts of so many
youngsters last year walking through Anstey Park in the driving rain
was truly an indication of the warmth and community spirit that
everybody involved in the football club has. I hope that it is a
brighter day weather wise and, importantly, everybody has a bit of
fun whilst raising money for the Hospice too. We cannot thank the
football club enough for their support which is gratefully
appreciated”.
