LOGAN’S
RUN OR FAMILY FUN RUN
SPONSORED BY
RUSHMOOR ARENA, ALDERSHOT
SUNDAY APRIL 3RD 2005
Fun Run starts at 10am.
Logan’s
Run at 10.30am.
The Phyllis Tuckwell
Hospice provides care for people with a progressive illness for whom there
is no longer curative treatment. Our catchment area is 600,000 people
covering the majority of the GU postal codes. It is likely that the Hospice
will affect everybody within the community during their lifetime either
directly, through a family member or friend. During the year 650 patients
enter the Hospice to stay where a pleasant and tranquil environment is found
with a wide ranging offer of support services designed specifically for
their needs. Our team provides dedicated and caring nurses, physical,
psychological, social and spiritual support together with complementary
therapies. There is an active Day Care Centre visited by 2,500 patients per
year and a Home Support Team who make over 1,000 visits. The Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice is a registered charity that makes no charge to their
patients irrespective of social or financial background. It costs over
£3million per year to continue to function, of which only 15.6% is received
through Government funding. It is the local community that supports their
local Hospice.
IAN LOGAN
Ian Logan was a dedicated member of Aldershot,
Farnham and District Athletics Club. He sadly passed away on August 15th
1997 at the age of 41 after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was an
accomplished track runner specialising in the steeplechase but he was also
able to record excellent times over 1500, 3000 and 5000 metres. Possibly
his greatest moment was as a member of the AFD cross country team that won
the “National” in 1983. Ian was also a member of the team that retained the
title in 1984 and 1985. A truly popular man, Logan’s Run is a fitting
tribute to a man who is missed by so many.
The organisers of Logan’s
Run are grateful to Phileas Fogg Travel Group, Boundary Road, Farnborough,
for their continued support of this growing event. Freedom, independence
and flexibility are bywords of Phileas Fogg Travel Group who are bonded by
the CAA and ABTA. They have a long standing commitment to customers and
careful selection of travel partners allows total confidence with travel and
holiday arrangements. Tel: 0800 089 8085 (Europe) or 0800 096 2777 (USA).

This is a short race for fun! You can
walk it too. The distance is approximately
1,000 metres and is suitable for children, parents and grandparents.
LOGAN’S RUN (4
MILES) - 10.30 a.m.
A 4 mile course which will commence and
end at Rushmoor Arena itself. The course will be on road and is suitable
for less experienced runners in addition to club athletes. Prizes will be
awarded to the first female and male finisher.
Sports Club Challenge
To widen interest in the main run this year we
are actively encouraging local sports teams to send a representative from
their club to compete in the “Sports Club Challenge Trophy” sponsored by
Phileas Fogg Travel Group. Last year there was representation from many
local football clubs and we have widened this to include all sports this
year. If you would like to enter your club it’s not too late but you must
wear your club colours in the race!
Company Challenge
Furthermore there will be a “Challenge Cup”
given to the winners of a team competition. Your team may enter as many
runners as possible and the first three finishers of each team will be
recorded on the day and a prize will be presented at a later date. Phileas
Fogg Travel Group entered a team last year as did the Aldershot News,
Rushmoor Borough Council Leisure Department and CSC. Why not enter your
company, raise funds for the Hospice and have some fun too?
RAISING FUNDS FOR THE
PHYLLIS TUCKWELL HOSPICE
The organisers respectfully inform competitors
that Logan’s Run is in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and sponsorship
forms will be sent to all entrants with the aim of
raising funds for this valuable local cause. For further information about
