PAYROLL GIVING - A
GUIDE FOR EMPLOYEES
How
would you feel if you found a way of giving more to your favourite
charities every time you give?
Payroll Giving – giving more can really cost you less
A donation made through your payroll is taken at source
(before tax) so it costs you less to give. For example, if you donate £10 a
month to the Hospice, it will only cost you £7.80. If you want to give £5 it
will actually cost £3.90 (about the cost of a glass of wine a month) –
fantastic! You are already giving much more for less!
For
the first six months the government will match your donation up to the value
of £10. That means that whatever you donate up to £10 the taxman will give
the same amount. So your chosen charity gets twice as much.

Can I give to more than one charity?
Yes - you can specify how much you want to give and to which
charity.
Just
think!
If every charity donation was given through the payroll, it has been
estimated that charities could claim an estimated £900 from the Inland
Revenue every year!
Other people’s payroll giving experiences
“It’s a
wonderful way to help your local Hospice and I haven’t missed the money at
all”
Mr Kinsley: Payroll Giver to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice for last nine years.
“I give to three
charities through the payroll, for me it means that I don’t worry about
walking past a collector in the street, and because I’m so busy it’s an easy
way to give”
Mrs Sarah Wood: Payroll Giver for last five years
“It’s a great way to
give back, and I like the fact that it’s tax efficient”
Mr Tim Dutton: New Hospice Payroll Giver
What do I do now?
Download and
print, then complete the form (PDF). Then simply tell your employer that
you want to give money through the payroll giving scheme. You can give as
much or as little as you like. The money will be deducted at source so it
will just appear on your payslip as a pre-tax payment. If you want to stop
giving again simply tell your employer to stop the payments.
Why does the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice need your help?
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is your local hospice, providing care for
patients and their families facing a life limiting illness, such as cancer
or motor neurone disease.
The Hospice costs £3.5
million a year or £10,000 a day to run. The NHS funds less than 16% of this
cost – the remaining £3 million needs to be raised every year through the
support of local businesses, organisations and individuals like you.
The Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice’s future is in your hands – thank you for your support.
